Twisted Garden Fresh Lemonade Recipe

What’s better than a glass of lemonade on a long, hot summer day? A glass of lemonade enhanced by fresh, home-grown herbs and vegetables (and a splash of your favorite spirits!).

Gone are the days of lemonade made with lukewarm water and a scoop of powdered drink mix. It’s now the foundation for sophisticated, refreshing beverages fit for a day at the pool, a weekend brunch, or an end-of-day indulgence. If you are extra dedicated to your beverages, we recommend using our spicy lemonade [external link] as a base. Jalepeños add a spicy zing that balances out some of the cocktail’s sweetness.

We’ve upgraded your favorite summer treat to suit a grown-up palette. Lemon verbena leaves pack an extra punch of citrus, while cucumber and fresh herbs add a freshness that cannot be beaten. Served over ice, this delectable summer cocktail that will cool down on even the hottest of days.

HELPFUL TIPS:

  1. Use fresh ingredients. Store-bought lemonade or herbs work for this recipe, but, if you can, always use home grown or homemade ingredients. Fresh is best!
  2. Cold is key. Lemonade can be either an exciting treat or a sticky mess depending on temperature. If you are making this ahead of time, store it in a glass without ice and keep refrigerated until serving. When it comes time to enjoy, pour over ice to keep your drink cool as long as possible.
  3. Dress up the glass. Garnishes are your chance to get creative! Break out your most fun glassware and let your imagination run wild. Use ice cubes in festive shapes, rim your glass with sugar or tajin, or float some fresh lemon slices. Don’t forget to add a few extra lemon verbena leaves on the side!
  4. Consider quantities. The recipe for Garden Fresh lemonade serves two. However, the recipe can be halved for a single serving or multiplied and served out of a pitcher for a crowd. Extra servings can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  5. Shake things up. Don’t be afraid to adjust the recipe to your own taste and preferences. White rum is an excellent swap for those who aren’t fans of vodka, and seltzer water transforms the cocktail into a fun, fizzy spritzer. Of course, there can never be too many fresh herbs–try adding mint, basil or lavender from your Gardenuity garden.
