Living in a Brooklyn apartment means thinking creatively when it comes to space. I don’t have a yard, a balcony, or even much of a windowsill to work with, so the idea of growing anything seemed out of reach. But microgreens? They’re a whole different story.
When I first received my Gardenuity microgreen kit, (as a corporate gift) I was excited but a little skeptical. Could I really grow my own food in such a small space? The answer is a big YES! The kit came with everything I needed—seeds, a planter, germination mats, and easy-to-follow instructions. I didn’t need any gardening experience, and the process was incredibly simple.
I now have fresh microgreens growing on my kitchen counter, right next to the window. It’s amazing how quickly they sprout and grow! Within a week, I had a vibrant patch of greens ready to harvest. The whole process has been so easy and fun, and it’s incredibly satisfying to know that I’m growing something healthy right in my own home.
As a consultant, I work long hours and often grab meals on the go but I wanted to upgrade my meals with fresh greens. When I learned about the nutritional value (thank you Emily Chapman) of these little powerhouse plants I was determined to love them. Microgreens may be small, but they pack a punch when it comes to flavor and health benefits. I’ve been experimenting with different types, like arugula, radish, and spicy mix, and each one adds a unique flavor to my meals.
Microgreens are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, so I’m getting a big boost of nutrition with every bite. I’ve been adding them to my salads, sandwiches, smoothies, and even on soups and pasta. It feels so good to eat something I’ve grown myself, and the flavors are so fresh and vibrant that they’ve taken my meals to the next level.
One of my favorite quick meals is an avocado toast topped with a handful of spicy radish microgreens. The greens add a zesty crunch that I just can’t get enough of!
One of the unexpected joys of growing microgreens has been the opportunity to share them with friends and neighbors. Living in Brooklyn, I’m part of a tight-knit community where we’re always recipes and ideas. When I started growing microgreens, people were curious and excited to learn more.
I’ve hosted a few “microgreen tastings” at my apartment (basically a fancy way of saying I invite friends over to snack on my greens). We try different combinations, swap recipes, and talk about the health benefits of microgreens. It’s been a great way to bring people together, and I love being able to share something I’ve grown myself.
Plus, microgreens make such a great gift! I’ve started bringing little bundles of freshly cut greens to friends when I visit. They’re always impressed, and it’s a fun way to share my new hobby with others.
There’s something really special about growing your own food, no matter how small the space or how tiny the plants are. My microgreen journey has been about more than just fresh greens—it’s been about finding a way to bring nature into my Brooklyn apartment, even in the midst of city life.
I love the daily ritual of tending to my greens, watching them grow, and harvesting them when they’re ready. It’s a simple but meaningful way to stay connected to what I’m eating and to bring a little bit of greenery into my home.
For anyone who thinks they don’t have the space or time to grow their own food, I’m here to tell you: if I can do it in my Brooklyn apartment, you can do it too! The Gardenuity microgreen kit has made it so easy and accessible, and it’s brought so much joy into my life.
If you’ve been thinking about starting a garden but don’t know where to begin, microgreens are the perfect place to start. They’re easy to grow, packed with flavor and nutrition, and they add so much freshness to your meals. Whether you live in a big city like me or have plenty of space to grow, microgreens are a great way to bring the garden into your life.
Thanks for letting me share my microgreen story with you! I’m excited to continue growing, eating, and sharing my little urban garden—and I hope my journey inspires you to start your own. If you’re ready to give it a try, check out Gardenuity’s microgreen kits and get growing!
