Cool Down Naturally: Make a Refreshing Garden Botanical Cooling Mist

One of my favorite summer wellness rituals doesn’t begin in the medicine cabinet.

It begins in the garden.

After a morning of harvesting herbs, a brisk walk, or simply enjoying time outside, there’s something wonderfully refreshing about coming indoors, pouring a glass of botanical iced tea, and reaching for a chilled botanical cooling mist.

It’s not about changing your skincare routine.

It’s about creating a simple ritual that helps you transition from the heat of the day into a few quiet moments of care.

At Gardenuity, we believe gardens nurture more than our plants. They inspire everyday wellness practices that help us slow down, reconnect, and grow what matters.

This refreshing botanical cooling mist has become one of our favorite ways to pause on a hot summer afternoon.

One of my favorite things about growing mint is that it asks so little and gives so much. Whether it’s tucked into iced tea, sprinkled over summer fruit, or steeped into this cooling mist, one small harvest has a way of turning an ordinary afternoon into something a little more refreshing.” Donna Letier

Why Mint

Fresh mint has been treasured for centuries for its bright aroma and naturally cooling sensation.

Combined with chilled green tea, it creates a light botanical mist that feels especially refreshing after spending time outdoors.

While this isn’t intended to treat sunburn or replace your daily skincare routine, it offers a simple way to cool down while enjoying the fresh scent of herbs you’ve grown yourself.

Sometimes the smallest rituals become the ones we look forward to most.

Gardenuity’s Garden Botanical Cooling Mist

Ingredients

  • ½ cup fresh mint leaves
  • 1 green tea bag
  • ½ cup water
  • A clean glass spray bottle

Directions

Bring the water to a boil.

Place the green tea bag and fresh mint leaves into a heat-safe measuring cup or bowl.

Pour the hot water over the herbs and tea.

Allow the mixture to steep until it has completely cooled.

Remove the tea bag and strain out the mint leaves.

Pour the liquid into a clean glass spray bottle.

Store in the refrigerator until ready to use. (We recommend making small batches, we keep it fresh in the refrigerator for up to a week.)

How to Enjoy It

Shake gently before each use.

Lightly mist your face, neck, or shoulders whenever you’d like a refreshing pick-me-up after gardening, exercising, or spending time outdoors.

The cool temperature, fresh mint aroma, and light botanical fragrance create a simple moment to pause and reset.

Grow Pro Tip

Harvest mint early in the morning whenever possible.

That’s when the leaves are typically at their freshest and most aromatic, giving your botanical cooling mist its brightest natural scent.

For an extra refreshing experience, keep the bottle in the refrigerator so it’s perfectly chilled whenever you need it.

Create a Garden-to-Wellness Moment

One of my favorite summer routines looks like this:

Harvest a handful of fresh mint.

Pour a glass of botanical iced tea.

Mist your face and neck with your chilled botanical cooling mist.

Step outside—or sit by a sunny window—and enjoy five quiet minutes.

Sometimes wellness isn’t another thing to accomplish.

Sometimes it’s simply creating space to enjoy what you’ve already grown.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will a homemade botanical cooling mist last?

Because this recipe contains no preservatives, keep it refrigerated and use it within three to five days. If the appearance or aroma changes, discard any remaining mist and prepare a fresh batch.

Can I use herbs other than mint?

Yes. Lemon balm makes a wonderful addition because of its light citrus aroma. You can also experiment with small amounts of lavender or chamomile. Always test a small amount on your skin first, as everyone responds differently to botanical ingredients.

Can I use dried herbs?

Fresh herbs provide the brightest aroma, but dried culinary herbs may also be used. If using dried herbs, use about one-third the amount called for in the recipe.

Is this a replacement for sunscreen or skincare products?

No. This botanical cooling mist is intended as a refreshing wellness ritual and is not a substitute for sunscreen or your regular skincare routine. Continue practicing good sun protection whenever you’re outdoors.

Is it safe for everyone?

Natural ingredients can still cause skin irritation for some individuals. Before using any homemade botanical preparation, apply a small amount to the inside of your wrist or forearm and wait 24 hours. Avoid using on broken, irritated, or sunburned skin, and discontinue use if irritation develops.

Garden-to-Wellness

One of the beautiful things about gardening is discovering that a harvest isn’t always about preparing a meal.

Sometimes it’s about creating a moment.

A pitcher of iced tea shared with friends.

A bouquet brightening your kitchen table.

A handful of herbs becoming a refreshing botanical cooling mist after a warm afternoon in the garden.

These small rituals remind us that wellness doesn’t have to be complicated.

It can begin with stepping outside, harvesting a few fresh herbs, and taking a moment to pause.

Grow What Matters.
