Grow Hope: Honoring the People Behind Susan G. Komen

Some of the most meaningful work in the world happens when people decide that someone else’s uncertainty deserves their time, their expertise, and their care.

A researcher keeps asking questions. A patient navigator helps someone understand where to turn. An advocate speaks up for people whose needs have gone unheard. A volunteer shows up, again and again.

At Gardenuity, we want to pause and honor those people—and the work Susan G. Komen does to turn compassion into action for individuals and families affected by breast cancer.

Because behind every pink ribbon is a person. And behind every step forward are people committed to making a difference.

Hope Takes Work

Susan G. Komen’s work reaches across breast cancer research, patient support, community health, and public policy. That breadth matters. Progress requires scientific discovery, and it also requires helping people access care and support today.

Through its Patient Care Center, Komen offers free, personalized navigation for patients, caregivers, and families. That support can include breast cancer information, emotional support, help accessing services, and connections to financial assistance resources. For someone facing unfamiliar decisions, having a knowledgeable person help identify the next step can mean so much.

Komen also funds research addressing some of breast cancer’s most difficult challenges, including metastatic and aggressive disease, more personalized care, and disparities in outcomes. It is work that looks toward the future while keeping patients’ needs at its center.

This is what we admire: the willingness to keep working on a complicated problem, from many directions, because people’s lives depend on progress.

Honoring Those Who Show Up

When we celebrate an organization’s impact, we also want to recognize the people who make that impact possible.

The scientists whose work requires patience and persistence. The staff members who bring knowledge and compassion to difficult conversations. The volunteers and donors who give what they can. The patients and advocates who share their experiences to help shape better care.

We also honor the caregivers, families, and friends whose support often happens quietly: driving to appointments, bringing dinner, listening without trying to fix everything, or remembering to check in after the first wave of concern has passed.

There is so much care in those everyday acts.

Our gratitude holds space for survivors, people living with metastatic breast cancer, those currently in treatment, and those we have lost. It holds space for grief, uncertainty, exhaustion, and joy. No one should have to feel hopeful every day to deserve unwavering support.

A Small Bloom, a Thoughtful Reminder

At Gardenuity, we spend our days thinking about what it means to nurture something.

Our pink Apple Blossom amaryllis gives us a simple way to express care. Watching its stem emerge and its petals gradually open can offer a small moment to pause, notice, and think of someone we love.

For us, “Hope Grows” is an invitation to make care visible.

A flower on a desk might say, “I’m thinking of you.” A bloom shared in someone’s honor might open a conversation about their life, their courage, or the difference they made. A quiet moment watching something grow might offer a little beauty during a difficult week.

We would never ask a flower to carry the weight of someone’s experience. But we believe small gestures can help us stay connected—and remind someone that they are remembered and loved.

Our Gratitude, Beyond October

Breast Cancer Awareness Month gives us a shared moment to pay attention. The need for research, care, and connection continues throughout the year.

We are honored to celebrate Susan G. Komen’s work and the people who sustain it. Their commitment reminds us that hope needs tending through resources, discovery, advocacy, and the steady act of showing up for one another.

We can each take part. We can learn more, volunteer, contribute directly, share a trusted resource, or reach out to someone who may need company.

To everyone working toward a world without breast cancer: thank you. For the questions you keep asking. For the people you keep helping. For the care you put into work that matters so deeply.

Thank you for helping hope grow.
