Some of my favorite tables begin with things I already own: blue-and-white dishes, linen napkins, and a few pieces collected over the years. Then I add something living.
This fall, I’m reaching for bronze.
A bronze waxed amaryllis brings a warm glow to the table before it ever blooms. Beside ivory linens, the finish feels quietly elegant. With blue-and-white china, it adds an unexpected richness. Arranged among autumn greens and pumpkin accents, it makes the whole setting feel ready for company.
And I’m apparently I am not the only one who is appreciating bronze.
In Real Simple’s look at metal finishes for 2026, designer Mel Bean shared: “While unlacquered brass is still very much present, I expect bronze to take center stage in 2026.”
Her observation focuses on interior finishes, but it speaks to something I love about the color: bronze brings warmth and depth to a space. A wax-dipped amaryllis offers a small, beautiful way to bring that feeling home—with a bloom still to come.
Why Bronze Works Beautifully with Fall Colors
Bronze has an earthy richness that feels at home with the colors of the season. It complements pumpkin, rust, merlot, cranberry, and leafy green, while adding a gentle shimmer to quieter combinations of cream, linen, and brown.
My favorite pairing might be bronze with blue and white. The warm finish brings a fresh dimension to familiar dishes, making a table feel seasonal without requiring an entirely new collection of accessories.
Try it with what you already have. Set a bronze bulb beside a favorite plate, unfold a napkin, and see how the colors work together in your room’s light.
Often, one thoughtful addition is enough to make familiar pieces feel special again.
How to Style a Bronze Waxed Amaryllis
The beauty of decorating with a waxed amaryllis is its simplicity. It needs no vase, soil, or watering, so you have plenty of freedom to find a place where you will enjoy watching it grow.
On the Thanksgiving Table
For a smaller table, place one bulb on a shallow decorative tray as a simple focal point. For a longer table, repeat a few down the center, leaving generous room for serving platters and conversation.
Pair them with linen napkins, seasonal foliage, and the dishes you love. If you add candles, keep flames and heat well away from the bulbs, leaves, and flowers.
Think about the arrangement as it grows, too. A bulb that sits comfortably below your guests’ sightlines today may have a tall flower stalk later. Move it to a sideboard when it needs more room.
Beside Blue-and-White Dishes
Bring out the blue-and-white platter you save for company. Set a bronze bulb nearby, add a folded ivory napkin, and let the contrast do the work.
This combination feels especially lovely on a sideboard or entryway console, where the bulb has space to grow and the dishes provide a beautiful backdrop.
On the Coffee Table
A coffee table is a wonderful place for something you want to notice every day.
Place a bronze waxed amaryllis on a stable tray beside a favorite book. Leave room for its emerging stems, and choose a spot with bright, indirect light.
It becomes a small daily discovery: a little taller this morning, a bud beginning to open tomorrow.
In the Entryway
An entryway sets the tone before anyone reaches the table. A bronze bulb beside a welcoming bowl or a framed family photograph adds warmth without requiring an elaborate arrangement.
Choose a bright spot away from drafts and heating vents, and give the bulb room to become the flower it is growing toward.
A Thanksgiving Hostess Gift That Grows
I have a soft spot for gifts that give someone something to look forward to.
A bronze waxed amaryllis makes a thoughtful Thanksgiving hostess gift because it is easy to enjoy. There is no arrangement to make and no watering schedule to remember. Your host can find a bright place for it and watch its progress in the days ahead.
Include a handwritten note:
Thank you for making room at your table. Here is a little something to enjoy as it grows.
It is a lovely way to thank the person who has been planning, cooking, setting the table, and thinking about everyone else.
From Peru to Your Table
Having visited the farm in Peru, I see more than a beautiful bulb when I look at an amaryllis.
I think about the growers carefully tending the plants and the artisans helping transform each bulb into something ready to give and enjoy. I think about the time and attention involved long before it reaches our homes.
The bronze finish is the detail that first catches your eye. The living bulb inside carries the next chapter.
That connection makes it especially meaningful to place on a table where we gather to give thanks: something grown and cared for by others, now becoming part of our own celebration.
Does a Waxed Amaryllis Need Water?
A waxed amaryllis needs no watering or additional soil for its initial bloom. The bulb stores the energy and moisture needed to grow and flower.
Place it upright on a stable surface in bright, indirect light, away from direct heat. Rotate it occasionally as the stalk grows to help encourage more upright growth.
Enjoy its pace. Bloom timing varies, so let the bulb become part of your seasonal decorating rather than planning around a particular day.
Let It Stay After the Guests Go Home
One of my favorite things about bronze is how easily it moves through the season.
After Thanksgiving, try your bulb beside winter whites or evergreen accents. Move it from the dining table to a bright console or coffee table where you can continue enjoying its progress.
You set the table for one lovely evening. Then, in the days that follow, you get to watch something grow.
That is my favorite kind of living décor: beautiful when it arrives, with more to look forward to.
