3 Reasons To Give Fall Gardening A Try

We know what you’re thinking… Gardening? In the fall? Isn’t that something that people do in the summer?

Although the summer is a lovely time to garden given the longer days, ample sunshine, and exciting summer fruits and vegetables, fall gardening may give summer a run for its money. 

If you are still shaking your head in disagreement or rolling your eyes in the back of your head, hear us out. We are going to convince you to turn your summer garden into fall with just three reasons why you should give fall gardening a try. 

Three Reasons to Give Fall Gardening a Try:

  1. Frost is a good thing. Have you ever heard the song “Rain Makes Corn” by Luke Bryan? If you haven’t, let me sum it up for you. Rain makes corn. Corn makes whiskey. And apparently, that is a good thing when you look at it through the perspective of a country singer. What Luke Bryan forgets to touch on is that frost is actually a good thing when it comes to gardens. Many leafy greens planted during the autumn season, not only do well during the cooler months, but actually thrive! The first frost or two can actually give a sweeter flavor to many greens like spinach, kale, and lettuce. So, frost is a good thing. You simply cannot make greens this good during the hotter seasons of the year.
  1. Weeds go on their way. Weeds are a warm weather ruckus that generally go away and let the plants do their own thing in the cooler months of autumn. Not only is this a huge plus for you as a gardener, since you do not have to crouch over, busting your back to pull out weeds, but it is also a positive for your plants. Weeds attack plants and try to do everything in their power to accumulate all of the water and nutrients for themselves, but when they take their fall and winter hibernation, plants are able to do their thing without any interference.
  1. Fall foods and flavors. Last, but certainly not least, the food and flavors of fall! Butternut squash, sweet potatoes, kale salads, all of the pumpkin spiced – EVERYTHING. Fall is one of our favorite seasons to enjoy as foodies. There are so many different creations you can make with your leafy greens and herb gardens. The options are endless, the fall is a great time to spend more time, cozied up baking or cooking. It is also a time to cook for others and gather to celebrate life and all of the bountiful harvest of wonders that life brings us!
