Okra is famously known for its deep Southern roots. It’s basically a staple in Southern cuisine. Chances are you know it from gumbo or as a deep-fried treat. But it is more than a southern specialty. Here are several ways to use okra that are innovative, unique, and just as delicious as fried okra.
It’s true: southerners love okra. But it is also popular in African, Indian, and Caribbean cuisines. With an immense amount of fiber, iron, calcium, and vitamin C and a tender, mild taste, this vegetable is going to quickly become your household staple.
Believe it or not, okra is divine in the right cocktail. We dare you to try it. We use this Spicy Pickled Okra and then layer it in our favorite Bloody Mary recipe.
Southern cuisine is known for being heavy, but that doesn’t mean okra has to be! This Georgia Rainbow Trout recipe includes a tasty succotash. There are plenty of summer veggies on this plate and, with the fish, you’ll feel refreshed and ready to take on the day. It’s one of our favorite summer meals.
Try Yankee Okra! It’s sauteed in olive oil with garlic, thyme, crushed red pepper, and basil. The flavors pair so well. This recipe definitely highlights your veggie and serves as a great side dish.
This warm salad is seriously divine, and it includes a homemade Indian Paneer cheese that is out of this world. The colors of this dish look beautiful and you’ll wow any guests with the ingenuity of your cooking.
This African Stew recipe may take a bit of time to prepare, but trust us: the finished product is worth every second (and it’s actually quite simple!). Included in this recipe is peanut butter, lots of vegetables, and chicken. The okra is integral to the success of this stew.
