National Bourbon Day is on June 14, and there’s never been a better week to celebrate. With temperatures spiking and summer produce rolling into farmer’s markets, it’s the perfect time of year to break out some ice, your favorite cocktail shaker, and an insulated tumbler to whip up a sweet and satisfying bourbon cocktail.
And you won’t get more sweet or more satisfying than this delightful Peach Bourbon Smash. It celebrates the height of peach season by enhancing the fresh fruit’s tart flavor with the liquor’s sultry undertones. Throw in some garden-fresh mint for a drink that you’ll want to make again, just in time for Father’s Day.
Use good bourbon. Good liquor makes good drinks. Treat yourself to a higher-shelf bottle and reap the delights.
Make sure your peaches are ripe. You’ll want to use ripe peaches for this so that the juices are darker, sweeter, and easier to extract. Pick a fruit that is soft to the touch without being mushy. If your peaches are too hard, try ripening them in a brown paper bag.
Stir well. Stir your cocktail and ice for up to a minute in order to get things fully combined and chilled.
Get creative. Add in different bitters, syrups, or garnishes to make this drink your own. Try a piece of candied ginger, orange bitters, or a sprig of rosemary to liven things up.
