Thyme & Time: A Garden Grown with Love | A Mother’s Day Reflection

There’s something enduring about a garden.

The way it asks for patience. The way it rewards care. The way it reminds us that growth takes time—and love.

As Mother’s Day approaches, I always find myself thinking about the gardens we tend and the women who shaped us. My mom, Nancy, was fiery, funny, and fiercely loyal. She stood up for us no matter what, and she believed her grandchildren were absolutely perfect in every way.

Nancy’s favorite saying was “Bloom where you are planted.” Over time, I’ve come to evolve that into a quiet mantra of my own: “Choose to bloom.” Because sometimes blooming isn’t easy. It’s not just about where you are—it’s about deciding to rise, to grow, and to thrive, even when the conditions aren’t perfect.

That’s what mothers do. That’s what gardening teaches us.

At Gardenuity, we believe the best Mother’s Day gifts are those that grow—gifts that offer a little thyme and a little time. Time to pause. Time to reconnect. Time to be nurtured by something green and alive. Whether you’re giving a Mother’s Day garden gift, tending a container garden on your patio, or growing herbs on your kitchen counter, you’re celebrating the quiet, beautiful power of care.

Gardening has been proven to reduce stress, improve mindfulness, and promote wellbeing—qualities we often associate with the women who nurture us.

This Mother’s Day, I hope you give yourself a moment to grow—whether it’s five minutes with your morning coffee and your garden, or a walk through the memories of the women who’ve helped you bloom.

Here’s to blooming bravely. To giving a little thyme and a lot of love. And to the moms—by birth, by choice, and by spirit—who make growth possible every day.

From the garden,
Donna
