We might not feel like cyborgs, but did you know that we are full of metal?
That’s right: items that we come into contact with each day, such as aluminum cans and foil, batteries, cookware and even food treated with pesticides contain some heavy metals. While dangerous levels of heavy metal poisoning is rare in the United States, the traces we ingest can accumulate over time and lead to inflammation.
If the idea of decades-old heavy metals lurking in your system gives you pause, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Adding certain foods to your regular diet can help draw out toxins and reduce inflammation over time. While some ingredients may seem foreign (spirulina, barley grass juice powder, and Atlantic dulse are not necessarily pantry staples), some, such as blueberries and cilantro, are easily accessible and can even be grown at home.
This smoothie recipe, one of our favorites, is an amazing way to introduce heavy metal-reducing foods into your morning routine.
