Earth Month: It Matters

Each April, we are called to celebrate Earth Month. It’s a time to thank nature for its splendor, of course, but it’s also a time to reflect on our relationship with the planet.

It can be easy to think that our actions cannot and will not impact the overall health of our climate, which, the news reminds us regularly, is not doing well. We know that individuals have less control over the situation than large corporations, who, statistically, have an outsized role in driving climate change

But it matters. It matters so much.

The NRDC has released a list of ways that individuals can help combat climate change, ranging from simple acts like changing out lightbulbs to more extreme measures such as installing home solar panels. But one way that is less talked about is how starting a home garden can change your personal ecosystem–both scientifically and subjectively.

If you are looking for a fun and easy way to impact the planet, look no further than your own backyard. Having a home garden can increase the amount of oxygen and decrease the amount of carbon dioxide in the air around you, help attract native species back to your neighborhood, replenish lost nutrients in your soil, even cool down cities. And that’s not even mentioning the feeling of empowerment that you will feel by growing your own food and reducing your own carbon footprint.

We recently saw a statistic that 45% of daily life is informed by the behaviors we choose to engage in. When we choose to spend time in the garden, we not only influence our own health but that of the world around us. Gardens truly are miracles.

What Gardenuity is Doing

Our theme for Earth Month this year is It Matters. For the month of April, we are encouraging our customers to help the planet through home gardening, while also doing our part to ensure its health for many, many years to come.

If you have been inspired to start your own home garden to improve the quality of the environment, we recommend our Growing for Good garden. For every garden that we sell this month, we will be planting one tree.

We are also focusing some of our efforts on getting corporations and companies to embrace gardening as a practice, not only for the environmental benefits but also for the community it creates. When we grow together, we create more than just new plant life. We build trust, we build friendships, we build bonds strengthened by shared interest and experiences. If you are interested in helping your company get a little bit greener, read more about our corporate partnerships here

We thank you for your support, not just for our company but in our efforts to change the world we live in. Many wonderful things start in the garden, but the community we have grown may be the best thing we’ve ever harvested.

Thank you for coming into our fold. Let’s make the change that matters.
