As we move into the full swing of the summer with July 4th picnics, parades, and fireworks, I invite all of us to savor the Capresque Moments. Reflect with gratitude on how blessed we are to live in a country that affords us liberties, second chances, and economic opportunities that others around the world do not have.
The Fourth of July is a time for Americans to honor and celebrate our country’s independence. It is a day to reflect on our country’s history, freedom, and values.
Last week in New York, I had dinner with two dear friends, both very successful professionally and personally, and the parents of two adorable children. This wonderful couple who moved to the US reminded me just how fortunate we are to live in a country that affords the equality of opportunity to everyone. They shared with me why they moved to the US and why they were raising their family here, which made me think about what so many of us take for granted about this country. I wish I could have recorded their words, their passion for America and Americans, their gratitude, and their personal story of why they feel blessed to be part of the fabric of our country.
While I was born and raised with the freedom to believe, to pursue and try anything I could imagine, many children do not have that luxury. It is a gift not to be forgotten. Our country is not perfect, but we continue to learn from our mistakes and embrace our differences, knowing that these challenges make us stronger. My friends, both successful entrepreneurs, reminded me how lucky I am to be growing a business in our country and pursuing the American Dream. But most importantly, I felt gratitude for these two extraordinary people who make our country better.
There is always room to improve, but the fact that we can openly debate our issues, call out injustice, work to understand our differences, and engage in the democratic process is what our founding fathers spoke about. America was founded on principles of freedom, democracy, and individual liberties – things easily taken for granted. Right now, our country is full of challenges, but it’s also full of opportunities and beautiful blessings.
So this July 4th, make memories with friends and family and reflect on how blessed we are to live in America. Let each Capraesque moment be an imprint filled with the power inherent in gratitude and in returning to ourselves, time and time again.
Thank you to my dear friends who reminded me just how blessed I am to live in this great country. There are so many things that make life in America special, and if you have a story you want to share, I would love to hear it. You can reach me directly at donna@gardenuity.com.
Until then, I’ll be in the garden.
Getting dirty for good,
