This week, we are bringing you a recipe that is beloved here in Texas: Ranch Water. Mix up your classic Ranch Water tradition with a tart twist from one of our favorite big city nutritionists, Katie Webber. Keep reading to learn how you can make your own today.

Staying Hydrated

Keeping your body hydrated is imperative for healthy mind-body functioning. Not only does staying hydrated make you feel better, but it also prevents infections, improves your mood, and keeps your cognition abilities up to par.

If you often find yourself spending exorbitant amounts of time outside, or doing work that involves profuse sweating, keeping hydrated is especially important for you. The best way to stay hydrated is to drink water, but you can also do so by eating water-rich fruits, drinking tea or drinking a yummy beverage like a virgin Ranch Water. If regular water is not for you, try drinking mineral water, or sparkling water.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup muddled or blended blackberries (raspberries or blueberries will also work here)

  • 1/2 cup lime juice (about 3-4 limes)

  • 3/4 cup good tequila (optional)

  • Topo Chico for topping off your cocktail (or other sparkling mineral water)

  • Big pinch of salt + more for rim

  • Lime wedges

  • Skewered blackberries and fresh mint for garnish (optional)

Directions

  • Muddle or blend your berries. You can strain them afterward to remove seeds and get a super smooth drink (optional).
  • Combine your muddled berries, lime, and tequila in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake to combine.
  • In a glass with ice, pour cocktail mixture in 3/4 of the way full.
  • Top off with Topo Chico, garnish and enjoy!
  • *Tip! To rim your glass with salt… run a cut lime along the rim of your glass and dip the wet rim into a small pile of salt. Do this before filling your glass with ice.

Grow Pro Tip: Grow some fresh mint in your Merry Mint Container Garden to add a fresh flavor and lovely garnish to your Ranch Water. You will not be sorry!

Enjoy

The next time you are feeling thirsty, be sure to drink something that will hydrate your body. Whether it is a yummy drink like a homemade Ranch Water, or it’s a fresh glass of iced tea, be sure to be kind to yourself and hydrate.
