Warm weather is perfect for frozen treats but we think The Merry Mint Julip Boozy popsicle is good anytime of the year. The flavor combination of freshly harvested mint with honey, strawberries and a little of your favorite bourbon will be a hit of any gathering.
Bringing mint together with bourbon is not a new combination and every year during the Kentucky Derby is celebrated as the classic cocktail. By adding some strawberries and honey you have just elevated the flavors. Some popsicles with spirits are challenging to make, but this recipe is actually incredibly easy and only requires a few ingredients.
Popsicles are such a welcome treat for kids and The Merry Mint Julep Boozy Popsicle is an indulgence for the adults. These frozen treats are spiked with just enough bourbon to give them the special taste of a classic julep and just enough so they will still freeze.
If you don’t have molds handy, use disposable paper cups. Once frozen, tear away the cup and enjoy the pop. We also tested making these special treats into oversized ice cubes and that was also a fan favorite.
Flavor combinations are endless for cocktail inspired popsicles, from sweet and sour boozy popsicles to creamy and smooth renditions of your favorite cocktail. If you need a little more inspiration just think about what your favorite cocktail is when you are gathering with friends. With a few alterations to the ratio of booze to the mixers you can almost turn any cocktail into a boozy cocktail. A good rule of thumb when creating a boozy popsicle recipe is to keep the mixer to liquor ratio at about 4:1. This lower proportion will enable the pop to freeze.
Just remember to keep these tucked away from your little one, these are not frozen treats you would want to mix up
